"You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete."

Buckminster Fuller, philosopher, futurist and global thinker (1895 - 1983)

"History teaches us that men and nations behave wisely once they have exhausted all other alternatives"

Abba Eban

Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

Call for papers

Types of papers sought

The papers should report original, previously unpublished findings in the fields of sustainable development of energy, transport, water, food and environment systems, their integration, their technical, environmental, economic and social perspectives. The review papers are also welcome, if they give thorough review in a particular narrow field with deep gap analysis. All papers will be reviewed under the direction of the International Scientific Committee by the Scientific Advisory Board. The papers with archival value (archival papers), meaning those that contribute significantly to the state of the art and report final results of research, with proper literature review, will be thoroughly reviewed and will be candidates for publication consideration in special issues of several archival journals. The papers that report work in progress without significant contribution to the state of the art, and those lacking a thorough literature review, are invited as conference papers, and will receive less stringent review. Authors are invited to offer suggestion on classification of their papers as "archival", “review” or "conference", when submitting them.

Authors (corresponding author) willing to present a paper should submit an abstract in English, between 1500-2500 characters long.

Abstract preparation and submission instructions

An abstract is an extremely important part of the paper because it summarizes the entire paper; it is the public’s window to your work and must allow the reviewers to make an intelligent decision about its acceptance. Its typical composition should be:

  • Motivation for the paper
  • Objectives
  • What was done
  • How it was done and validated
  • Major results
  • Conclusions

In writing the abstract, be quantitative, write it clearly and in good English, and do not exceed the imposed 1500-2500 characters length limit. The abstracts, which will be reviewed by International Scientific Committee, can only be submitted online:

References

We believe that it would be very useful if the authors thoroughly reviewed the papers that have already been published in partner journals in special issues dedicated to the SDEWES conference series. Such an effort would not only improve the quality of your manuscript, but also promote the awareness of the available information resources that exist in the structure of the SDEWES conference series. Please use the online databases for the literature review: www.sdewes.org/journals or www.mendeley.com/community/sdewes/.

Paper submission, presentation and deadline rules

Each paper to be published in online Proceedings and in special issues of journals will have to be presented at the Conference by one of the authors (presenting author). The papers will not be allowed to be presented by those who are not its authors. Papers not presented will not be published in the online Proceedings and will not be invited in special issues, no matter what the reason for not presenting them is. Each participating author will be obliged to present one paper orally at the Conference. Any additional papers by the same author may be presented in the poster sessions.

Types of contributions:

  • archival paper (published in the Book of Abstracts and online Proceedings, may be invited to a special issue, which are submitted by archival paper submission deadline and for which the fee was settled by archival paper fee deadline)
  • conference paper (which may be original contribution, review paper, or work in progress, are published or archived in Book of Abstracts and online Proceedings, which are submitted by conference paper submission deadline and fee settled by conference paper fee deadline)
  • conference abstract (published or archived in Book of Abstracts, fee settled by conference paper fee deadline)

Types of presentation:

  • oral presentation (presented in one of general or special sessions)
  • poster presentation (presented in one of poster sessions) - NOT AVAILABLE THIS YEAR! All to be switched to oral presentations.

The papers with archival value (archival papers), meaning those that contribute significantly to the state of the art and report final results of research, with proper literature review, will be thoroughly reviewed and may be candidates for publication consideration in special issues of several partner journals (among others Energy, Applied Energy, Journal of Cleaner Production, Energy Conversion and Management, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Journal of Environmental Management, Thermal Science, Waste Management & Research, Energies, Journal of Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems).

Some of the conference papers, those that contribute to the state of the art and report final results of research, with proper literature review, might be invited to journals like Energies and Journal of Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems.

Manuscript template with instructions is available to all corresponding/presenting authors of accepted abstracts after logging-in the conference submission system.
